justice contributor

freelance | Remote (U.S. only)
$300–$400 per published piece, depending on scope

We’re bringing back Reject Apathy — RELEVANT’s legacy justice vertical — the place where a generation that takes its faith seriously wrestles with the intersection of faith and justice. To help create it, we’re building a small team of proven freelance journalists.

This is a freelance role, not a staff position. Our editorial team sets the story calendar; assignments largely come to you, and you execute them with excellence. (That said, if you have passion for specific justice topics, or expertise in a space, we’d love for you to pitch us stories we need to be covering as well.)

How it works

  • You get an assignment. A story at the intersection of faith, justice and advocacy — planned, scoped and scheduled by our editorial team. Every assignment comes with its scope and rate up front: some lean heavier on reporting and research, some on interviews, some on social video — and the rate for the piece reflects it

  • You report and write it. Your research, your interviews, your byline, 800–1,200 words. This is rigorous journalism — sourced, fact-checked, fair — on subjects that deserve nothing less

  • You build in the action. Each piece points readers somewhere real: the organizations, resources and pathways that turn caring into doing. You’ll also help shape a short social video from your piece so the story reaches the audience where they are

  • You pitch when inspired. The calendar is ours, but great ideas are welcome — contributors who see stories before we assign them become contributors we call first

Who you are

  • A trained journalist with newsroom or serious freelance experience — you know how to research, source, interview and verify, and you have published work that proves it

  • Deeply invested in the intersection of faith and justice — this beat is a conviction for you

  • A strong, proven writer with real bylines on substantive pieces

  • Reliable on deadline — assignments run on a weekly publishing calendar

  • U.S.-based (required)

Built for working freelancers who want a steady, meaningful client on the beat they care most about. Regular assignments, clean scope, per-piece pay.
