Managing Editor
full-time
Location: Orlando (preferred) — remote possible for the right person (u.s. only)
RELEVANT reaches millions of Christian young adults each month through daily content, social media and podcasts — and we’re looking for a multi-faceted content creator with the ideas and taste to be our next managing editor.
Media is changing faster right now than at any point in the 26 years we've been doing this. That’s a huge opportunity, and we're looking for a managing editor who sees it the same way.
The job is to be a face, voice and tastemaker for the brand. You'll be on camera every week. You'll handle overlapping daily deadlines, so organization and efficiency are key, but equally important is having the right instincts, personality, drive and passion.
The role
The managing editor runs RELEVANT’s editorial operation and is the closest creative partner to our founder and publisher. You’ll shape what we publish every day across the site, podcasts, social and our quarterly digital magazine. You’ll also be on the RELEVANT Podcast every week and conduct every interview. Ideally, you’ll do social media videos as well.
It's a leadership seat, but it’s also highly collaborative. More on that below.
What you’ll own
The plan. You’ll build and run the editorial calendar across everything RELEVANT makes — roughly five stories a day, a weekly podcast, a quarterly magazine issue. We cover faith, culture, justice and life in your 20s/30s, and you’ll bring ideas, angles and expertise for all of it, and then drive the content plans to completion.
The podcast. You’ll be on camera. You help decide who’s worth talking to, you get them in the chair and you make the conversation matter. That means owning guest strategy end to end: identifying, pitching, booking, prepping and conducting interviews — with research and questions that produce shareable moments.
The words. You’ll write, assign, edit and shape our content.
The feed. Social strategy, copywriting, scheduling and deployment across every platform. You’ll keep the voice consistent everywhere RELEVANT shows up, and you’ll get real leverage out of our automation stack — scheduling tools, AI-assisted workflows and whatever comes next.
The numbers. You’ll live in the analytics — traffic, watch time, retention, engagement, reach. You figure out what’s actually connecting and what only felt like it should. Then you’ll change the plan. Kill what isn’t working, double down on what is and be willing to be wrong quickly.
The systems. You’ll manage editorial contributors, publicist pitches, coordinate with design, video and sales, and build repeatable content processes so the operation scales without adding headcount.
How we work
You’ll work closely with Cameron Strang, RELEVANT’s founder and publisher, who’s been building this brand for over two decades and is still deeply hands-on. He sets the overall vision and direction, and cares about the details. You’ll be the person he thinks out loud with — check-ins through the day, weekly planning sessions, pulling up the analytics together.
That’s the job in a nutshell: you’re not handed a task list, and you’re not left alone with a blank page. You’ll bring ideas to a partner who has strong ones of his own, and the best version wins. Decisions happen in hours, not quarters. Speed, teachability and adaptability are key in this current media landscape.
Who you are
You’re passionate about your faith. You’re pro-Church, and you want to give voice to what God is doing in — and saying to — this generation.
You’re the RELEVANT audience. You’re not studying this generation from the outside — you’re in it, and you know what it’s asking because you’re asking some of the same things.
You have great taste. This is the big one. You care about new bands, movies, TV and what’s happening online this week. You have your finger on the pulse. You’re the friend everyone asks for recommendations, and the one who sent them the album three months before it broke. You can walk into a week of noise and spot the three things that actually matter. Knowing what’s good comes naturally to you.
You’re good on camera. You like being on it. You can hold a conversation in front of a lens without stiffening up, and you can talk to a phone camera and make people stop scrolling. This is a visible job, and it’s not the part of it you’re hoping to grow into later.
You’re genuinely curious. You’re the person who wants to know how something works, why someone believes what they believe, what the real story is behind the press release. That instinct is what makes a great interview.
You can write. You know how to spot a story, find the angle and make a point land. You can write a witty social caption. You have a voice people recognize when they read it.
You’re organized. You can keep a lot of plates spinning — overlapping deadlines, contributors, a podcast, a publishing calendar — without dropping them or going quiet. We have systems in place, but embracing them and keeping things on track is key. Of everything on this list, this is the one that’s hardest to pick up later.
You’re a learner. You want to get better. You take feedback and use it. You’d rather be taught something than pretend you already know it. You’re hungry to grow.
You’re fast with technology. When a new tool shows up that does in four minutes what used to take four hours, you want to use it — and then figure out what other things are now possible with the time that’s freed up. If new tools can help you do things more effectively, you’re happy to adapt and not keep doing it the old way.
You have wit. You’re interesting. You’re comfortable on camera and on mic. You’ve been known to crack a timely zinger or two.
What we’re not asking for
A long resume. Media is changing rapidly, so having 10 years of experience in antiquated tasks isn’t really relevant to where things are going. You do need to be a proven writer, and have the intangible traits we just outlined. But outside of that, there’s no minimum number of years of experience required.
If you have ideas, can spot a story, ask a great question and juggle things, we can teach you the rest — and we’d enjoy building some of it with you.
Who this isn’t for
If you want a defined lane, stable checklist and slow pace, this will be miserable for you. The role changes. The algorithm changes. The plan changes when better ideas emerge or the data says they should. This job is for someone who is driven, adaptable and passionate to make an impact.
And if being on camera every week sounds like the hard part of this job rather than the fun part, this isn’t the one for you.
If you’re cynical, this isn’t the job for you.
Rough weekly schedule
Here’s pretty much how a week breaks down:
7 hours — Podcasting and interviewing
5 hours — Email and meetings
10 hours — Social media
18 hours — Editorial writing, scheduling and planning
What we offer
A brand that’s been shaping the conversation at the intersection of faith and culture for over two decades. A small team that moves fast. Direct access to leadership every day. And an unusual amount of room to make your mark on something people actually care about.
Full-time salaried position with a health insurance stipend. We work remotely now, but we’d love to have you in Orlando with us as we rebuild our core team and studio here in the coming seasons. For the right person, we’re open to long-term remote but don’t love it.
