RELEVANT, the leading content brand reaching Christian twenty- and thirty-somethings, has grown a lot in the last couple of years. We currently reach more than 5 million people a month through our platforms, and while we might be best known as a magazine the vast majority of that is online. We have a ton of innovative multimedia plans in motion and are looking for a versatile, full stack web developer to join our team.
Because we're an small team wanting to change the world, creating innovative, powerful content experiences on a variety of platforms is a constantly moving target. Our digital strategies evolve at a fairly rapid pace, which is a blast. Our web developer position will be a strategic leader in that, and will wear a lot of hats in creating RELEVANT's future.
This is a highly collaborative in-house position that works with the digital front-end design team, CEO, analytics manager and project manager to ideate and create compelling platform innovations that set us up for continued audience growth and deeper engagement in a mobile, multi-screen world.
The ideal candidate is our target reader. They know what makes RELEVANT unique, is passionate about our mission, and have the vision and expertise to help take the brand to the next level.
The position will be responsible for the architecture and programming of our websites, freestanding web applications as well as the development of modular components/plugins of functionality that will integrate inside of existing content management system, WordPress.
The position will also manage our MySQL customer database, ensuring security and stability. Creating and managing an efficient system of reporting customer information internally, as well as easily segmenting the database into various lists, will be an important part of the job.
The position will be responsible for the effective implementation of SEO and social media/sharing best practices throughout our platforms. The position will manage and build the front-end and back-end of all our sites, based on approved designs. (A production designer will assist with the front-end CSS/HTML built-out.)
Experience in app development is a plus. (Like we said, we have a lot of ideas.)
The candidate will demonstrate advanced knowledge of modern back-end and front-end web programming languages and workflow processes, as well as clear and demonstrable skills related to web application security hardening, web application performance improvements, and web programming testing techniques. This position will be responsible for determining strategic best practices as it pertains to UX/UI development.
The position will manage our web hosting, domains and RSS feeds. Experience with email optimization and list efficiency/compliance is important.
The candidate will be responsible for debugging and trouble-shooting issues within existing web applications and Drupal, providing solutions in a timely fashion so as to mitigate down time or other negative impacts for users.
The candidate will research new web back-end solutions, frameworks, and techniques for improvements in functionality, performance, and security, ensuring RELEVANT's digital properties are leveraging modern and tested solutions.
- Bachelor's degree in web development or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of hand-coded PHP, MySQL database development
- Expert in WordPress development
- Strong project management, organizational and administrative capabilities—able to juggle multiple projects while meeting deadlines
- Knowledge of Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) products
- Knowledge of online marketing platforms (i.e. Adwords, SEO, Facebook / Twitter Ads, etc.)
- Search engine optimization
- General API experience
- Strong attention to detail when developing front-end user interfaces from approved design mockups
- Proven ability to effectively troubleshoot problems in code
